en.Wedoany.com Reported - Elea Data Centers, in partnership with AXIA Energia, is launching the first artificial intelligence neutral data center (BEL1) in the Amazon region, located in Belém, Pará, Brazil. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2027, with an initial capacity of 7.5 MW, backed by demand from a large anchor client, and potential expansion to 100 MW in future phases. Elea will be responsible for operating the facility, while AXIA will supply 100% renewable energy for the project. The facility will source 100% renewable energy through power purchase agreements.

Green Map

The data center will be built near the Miramar high-voltage substation operated by AXIA, ensuring high energy reliability, future expansion flexibility, and greater operational efficiency. Alessandro Lombardi, CEO and founder of Elea Data Centers, stated that the project began in 2024 when Belém was confirmed as the host city for COP30, which has enhanced the region's potential to attract structural and sustainable investments. The northern region will play a fundamental role in Brazil's digital ecosystem by offering an alternative route to Fortaleza, helping to reduce digital inequality and boost regional competitiveness, with BEL1 becoming a legacy of COP30. The BEL1 project includes AXIA's commercialization and land components, positioning the energy company prominently in the country's growing data center market. Ítalo Freitas, Vice President of Commercialization and Energy Solutions at AXIA, noted that as the largest 100% renewable energy company in the Southern Hemisphere, AXIA has a robust portfolio capable of guaranteeing reliable and sustainable energy supply for an enterprise of this scale, expanding connectivity, and helping to attract investments that drive economic development in the Amazon region.

From a connectivity perspective, Belém holds a strategic position as a complementary and resilient route to the Fortaleza hub. The city is integrated into the northern region's connectivity network through the information channel of the "Northern Interconnection" plan, and its importance is further enhanced as coastal fiber optic routes connect to international systems linking Europe to Latin America. This combination strengthens routing diversity, expands the resilience of Brazil's digital infrastructure, and positions Belém as a new strategic hub for the Amazon's digital economy.
