The Gippsland Basin gas assets are a significant source of supply for the domestic market on Australia's east coast. Woodside and Esso Australia Resources each hold a 50% participating interest in GBJV and a 32.5% participating interest in KUJV.

Woodside CEO Liz Westcott stated that completing the operational transition is an important milestone for the company's Australian operations. She noted that Woodside's takeover of these assets, which are critical to securing national energy supply, aims to maintain safe and reliable operations and support ongoing energy security on the east coast. All natural gas produced by Woodside from the Gippsland Basin is supplied 100% to the domestic market.

As operator, Woodside will continue to assess development opportunities within the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture. Identified potential projects are expected to leverage existing infrastructure to deliver up to 200 PJ of additional gas supply to the eastern coastal market.
