en.Wedoany.com Reported - June 30 – Nepal Telecom has launched 4G service at Murma Top in Mugu district. Located near the popular tourist destination of Rara Lake, the service now provides local residents, tourists, and trekkers with high-speed mobile data and high-quality voice services.

Murma Top, situated within the Rara National Park area, is a key vantage point overlooking Rara Lake, mountain ranges, and landscapes of Karnali Province and the Far-Western Province. In the past, mobile network construction in such mountainous tourist spots was challenging due to terrain, altitude, power supply, transmission, and maintenance conditions. With this 4G launch, Nepal Telecom is not merely adding a signal point for a tourist hotspot but extending mobile broadband coverage to more remote high-altitude areas. For tourists, the 4G network supports navigation, social media posts, photo and video uploads, online bookings, and emergency communication; for local residents, hotels, homestays, and businesses, improved network access facilitates mobile payments, online marketing, customer communication, and digital services.

Users in the area can also access VoLTE services for high-definition voice calls.

The new 4G site also serves a relay function. It not only covers Murma Top but also acts as a communication extension node, enhancing mobile and data service coverage for remote Himalayan regions such as Humla and Bajura. Mountain communication networks typically require relay transmission through multiple sites; a single high-altitude base station, if well-positioned, can improve signal conditions in surrounding valleys, trekking routes, and villages. Nepal's complex terrain and significant mountain barriers mean that communication infrastructure construction must simultaneously address site selection, transmission backhaul, power supply, equipment maintenance, and adverse weather impacts. Once operational, the Murma Top 4G site will enhance communication accessibility in parts of Karnali Province and the Far-Western Province.

Nepal Telecom previously operated 4G services in the Rara Lake area. With the launch at Murma Top, mobile broadband coverage in the Rara tourism belt has been further strengthened.

Improved communication coverage will also drive the digitalization of tourism services. Rara Lake attracts a large number of tourists annually, and mobile network quality affects tourists' ability to share experiences, check routes online, book accommodations, and access local services. Local businesses can leverage more stable networks to publish tourism information, manage customer orders, use digital payments, and conduct online promotions. For remote tourist areas, a 4G base station is not just a communication facility but also a component of the tourism economy, public services, and emergency support.

Nepal Telecom stated that it will continue to expand coverage of modern communication and information technology services. The 4G launch at Murma Top demonstrates that Nepal's mountain mobile network construction is extending from major scenic areas to higher altitudes and more remote nodes.
