en.Wedoany.com Reported - GE Vernova announced on June 30, 2026, the completion of a modernization of its high-voltage research and development laboratory in Noventa di Piave, near Venice, Italy, which is used to test equipment that helps safely transmit electricity from production sites to demand centers. The project is part of a four-year investment plan totaling approximately $7.2 million, aimed at strengthening the site's role in developing technologies for more reliable, flexible, and resilient power grids.

As electricity demand grows and more renewable energy sources are connected to the grid, utilities require modern equipment capable of operating under more demanding conditions. The upgraded laboratory will help GE Vernova test critical equipment—including transformers and disconnectors—before they are deployed to the grid.

Eric Chaussin, Vice President and CEO of GE Vernova's Power Transmission division, stated that a reliable grid relies on technologies that have been tested, validated, and proven under the most demanding operating conditions. The investment in Noventa enhances the company's innovation capabilities in Italy, enabling faster responses to customer needs and supporting the delivery of more resilient power systems for customers in Italy and globally.

This investment is part of GE Vernova's ongoing commitment to electrification in Italy, including the previously announced expansion of manufacturing capacity in Sesto San Giovanni, with an investment of over $30 million.

The Noventa di Piave facility, part of GE Vernova's Electrification business, has become a key component of the company's industrial footprint in Italy, leveraging over 50 years of experience. The facility currently employs more than 300 people and plans to add approximately 15 new employees annually over the next few years. The modernization project supports the site's long-term growth, helps attract highly skilled talent, and enhances its contribution to the local economy.

GE Vernova's facilities in Noventa di Piave and Sesto San Giovanni together provide manufacturing, research, and testing capabilities, supporting Italy's power infrastructure and serving customers in global export markets. The company has supported Italy's power industry for over 100 years, and currently, approximately 25% of Italy's power capacity is provided by GE Vernova's technology. This investment is part of the company's plan to allocate $11 billion in capital expenditure and R&D initiatives between 2025 and 2028.
