en.Wedoany.com Reported - Alcoholes del Uruguay (ALUR) has signed an agreement with the Government of Lavalleja Province to launch a used cooking oil recycling project in Minas and Solís de Mataojo for the production of second-generation biodiesel.

The agreement was signed on June 23 by ALUR President Ing. Marcelo Sadres and the Governor of Lavalleja Province, Dr. Daniel Ximénez, with the attendance of Acting Secretary General Yliana Zeballos and Director of the Lavalleja Environment Agency Aurora Fernández.

This initiative is part of the activities for Environment Month and ALUR's "La Energía se Transforma" (Energy Transforms) program, which has been running since 2014. ALUR stated that since the program's launch, over 2.5 million liters of used cooking oil have been collected nationwide, with more than 150 active collection points. After collection and processing, this raw material is incorporated into the biodiesel production line at the Planta Capurro facility in Montevideo.

Under this collaboration, several waste oil collection points will be established in Lavalleja: eight in Minas and two in Solís de Mataojo. Additionally, 13,000 household collection cans, 20 household collection containers, and 40 commercial collection drums will be distributed to local families and businesses.

Operational implementation will begin this year, with plans to advance during the 2026-2027 period. The first phase aims to cover approximately 13,000 households. "We are very pleased to sign this agreement. For every liter of used cooking oil we recycle, we are preventing environmental degradation," said Marcelo Sadres.

The agreement also includes an environmental education program for residents of Minas and Solís de Mataojo. ALUR emphasized that these actions help continue transforming what was once waste into renewable energy, promoting a circular economy and protecting the local environment.
