en.Wedoany.com Reported - The renovation of the North Street campus building at Leeds College of Building (LCB) has commenced.

As part of its ongoing campus improvement plan, LCB is undertaking a façade cladding upgrade on the building, which has served as a college facility since the 1960s. In addition to enhancing the street-level appeal of the North Street campus, these works will align it with the new brand identity of LCB's South Bank campus.

LCB stated that the most noticeable change will be the removal of the cantilevered entrance canopy. This decades-old canopy will be replaced with a bright green glass canopy, echoing the architectural style of the LCB South Bank campus.

These works are funded by a £919,871 grant from the Further Education College Condition Allocation (FECCA) fund, which is specifically designated for critical college and building improvements. LCB is using this funding for the façade and restaurant refurbishment at the North Street campus, as well as the renovation of a newly acquired building near the campus.

Chris Duncan, Vice Principal of Finance and Resources, said the college is pleased to see the summer works commence. The North Street campus façade is undergoing a complete renovation, including new branded signage, a modernized entrance, new landscaping, replacement cladding, and building glazing.

Significant upgrades are also taking place inside the building, with the restaurant being fully refurbished. These new and improved facilities will enhance the experience for both LCB students and staff.

Chris Duncan noted that this is an exciting time for the college. LCB has just purchased a new building on Byron Street, which will significantly boost its capacity to deliver high-quality training. As the designated Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC) for Yorkshire and the Humber, LCB will play a role in the government's plan to build 1.5 million new homes and advance key local and national infrastructure projects.

LCB is renovating the large building on Byron Street, an initiative that will effectively increase the college's campus space by one-third. Once completed, the building will harmonize the North Street campus with LCB's modern South Bank campus—Building 1 of which opened in 2015, and Building 2 in 2019.

The college added that the new building will support CTEC's mission to train up to 40,000 more people for high-demand trades by 2029, addressing skills shortages in construction.

The renovation of the North Street campus is expected to be completed by the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
