The Hornet Solar installation, covering over six square miles with 1.36 million solar panels, has a 600 MW capacity and is now fully operational, providing clean energy to the region.

Vesper Energy marked the project’s commercial operation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Construction of Hornet Solar began in mid-2023, with Vesper securing $590 million in financing early the following year. The one-millionth solar panel was installed later in 2024, and the final panel was placed early the next year. The project’s scale underscores its role in advancing renewable energy in Texas.
Zach Wald, vice president of EPC at Vesper, emphasized its local benefits, stating: “The scale of Hornet Solar speaks for itself—1.36 million panels, over six square miles, and 600 MW of capacity. But the real impact is what this project delivers to Swisher County: more than $100 million in new tax revenue and meaningful investments in schools, infrastructure, and healthcare.”
The project has generated significant economic advantages for Swisher County, creating over 300 jobs during construction. The new tax revenue will support local schools, infrastructure, and healthcare, contributing to regional development.
