TYASA launches special steel plant in Veracruz with $250 million investment

The new facility has an initial annual production capacity of 400,000 tons, primarily targeting the growing demand from high-specification industries such as automotive, metalworking, petroleum, energy, and tool manufacturing. In the initial phase, operations focus on producing round steel bars with diameters ranging from 1 inch to 4 inches, as well as hot-rolled flat steel bars with widths of 2 to 4 inches and thicknesses of 5/16 to 1 inch, suitable for high-performance industrial applications.

The Mexican market has historically relied on imports of SBQ special steel. The launch of this new plant will strengthen domestic supply capacity, reduce external dependence, and enhance the supply chain stability for local manufacturers. On the social and economic front, the construction and development of the first phase have created 250 direct jobs and over 3,000 indirect jobs in the region. The company's expansion plans also include launching heat treatment, cold finishing, and inspection production lines in the third quarter. With this progress, TYASA's total production capacity will reach 1.6 million tons per year, making it the only producer in Mexico covering all commercial steel, flat steel, and special steel products.
