Green Flexibility Develops 3GWh Energy Storage Projects in Germany
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Green Flexibility will collaborate with German battery energy storage developer Kajoni to jointly develop a project portfolio with a total power of 750 megawatts and an energy storage capacity of 3 gigawatt-hours. These projects are currently being applied for through Germany's newly launched grid connection maturity process for large-scale battery projects.
Under the agreement, Kajoni will continue to advance the projects to a "ready-to-build" status, while Green Flexibility is responsible for providing funding during the development phase and undertaking subsequent construction, operation, and commercialization of the battery energy storage systems. Green Flexibility stated that this transaction solidifies its position as a long-term investor, developer, and operator of large-scale battery energy storage projects in Germany, with a strategy of holding assets through construction and long-term operation.
German transmission system operators introduced this maturity process this year to allocate grid connections for large-scale battery energy storage projects. The first round of applications opened in April, replacing the previous system and shifting to a more capital-intensive development process.
Additionally, Green Flexibility announced a partnership with a fourth German municipal utility company. The company will work with Stadtwerke Menden to build a 10 MW/25 MWh battery energy storage system in western Germany. Construction is scheduled to begin in September, with commercial operation expected in the second quarter of 2027.
