en.Wedoany.com Reported - A preliminary analysis by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) economics team of state Departments of Transportation (DOT) fiscal year 2027 budgets shows total new budget authority slightly decreased by 1.4% to $221.3 billion from $224.5 billion in the previous fiscal year.

Despite a modest annual contraction, the current budget level remains more than 35% above the fiscal year 2021 level of $162.5 billion, which served as the baseline year before the increased federal funding from the 2021 Infrastructure Act and the surge in state revenues from the pandemic recovery.

The ARTBA analysis notes that while some states report increased budget pressures, the overall trend indicates that total transportation resources available for planning are near record levels and remain stable in the short term. Flat budgets are common during the reauthorization period for federal surface transportation programs, which is currently set to expire on September 30.
