Scania raises 2026 Brazil natural gas truck sales forecast to 750 units
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Scania has raised its 2026 sales forecast for natural gas trucks in Brazil to 750 units, surpassing the initial target of 500 units. The company has already met its original goal, with an additional 250 units in its order backlog, some of which are scheduled for delivery in the second half of the year.

Brazil's overall natural gas truck market has contracted this year. According to data from the Brazilian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Anfavea), natural gas truck registrations totaled 338 units from January to July this year, a 33.3% decrease compared to 507 units in the same period in 2025.
Although other brands already sell natural gas trucks in the Brazilian market, their sales volumes remain significantly behind Scania's; Scania currently holds the position of leading supplier in Brazil's natural gas truck market.
The gap between sales forecasts and official registration data stems from Scania's build-to-order production model. Vehicles are manufactured according to customer specifications, and after rolling off the production line, they must go through delivery and registration processes. This time lag means its sales figures may lead market statistics. Vehicles in the order backlog will be produced and delivered over the coming months, and some vehicles reaching customers at year-end may not be registered until 2027.
One of Scania's key natural gas initiatives this year is the TransJordano project, which plans to incorporate 100 biomethane trucks into its fleet. The first batch of vehicles began delivery in August, continuing in phases through December. These trucks are Scania 6×4 models and will form nine-axle road trains with a total capacity of up to 74 tons.
The project is funded by the Climate Fund (Fundo Clima) of the Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and is part of TransJordano's strategy to reduce operational emissions. TransJordano founder João Bessa noted that biomethane can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 95% compared to diesel, with average fuel consumption reduced by 12% and operating costs lowered by approximately 10%, although fuel prices remain 10% to 15% higher than diesel.
To support this operation, TransJordano has established a refueling corridor between Ribeirão Preto, Sumaré, and Cubatão in São Paulo state, featuring three proprietary stations. The corridor is also shared with other transport companies through the group's Garage Log subsidiary.
TransJordano's order is part of the backlog supporting Scania's 2026 sales forecast of 750 units. Scania stated that contracted orders will go into production and be delivered in the second half of the year.
