en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dutch truck manufacturer DAF will equip its electric trucks with driving automation systems, having signed a partnership with Swedish transport technology company Einride. Einride is known for developing electric and autonomous trucks without driver cabs, and this collaboration will see the Einride Driver system integrated directly into DAF's electric truck production line.

The technology combines sensors, cameras, radar, and lidar to enable SAE Level 4 autonomous driving. The trucks retain a driver cab and controls such as the steering wheel and pedals, but the vehicle is capable of performing all driving operations autonomously without human intervention. DAF states that drivers will continue to work inside the vehicle in the future, but without the need to drive, allowing them to shift their focus to logistics operations oversight and other tasks.

As the first step in the partnership, the two companies will work with experts from TNO, the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, to define and test the integration of Einride's autonomous driving system on DAF's electric truck platform, including establishing the necessary interfaces for safe and scalable autonomous operations. They will also collaborate with government authorities to facilitate certification of the technology for use on public roads.

Initial testing and validation of key interfaces are planned for 2026, with the integration and commissioning of Einride's autonomous driving software to be completed in 2027. All subsequent interface validation and functional testing will be conducted on DAF trucks, and the technology will be applicable to the DAF XB, XD, XF, XG, and XG+ electric truck models.
