en.Wedoany.com Reported - After a nearly two-year hiatus, United Airlines is resuming direct service between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Moab Canyonlands Regional Airport (CNY) in Utah, with flights set to restart in October. The route reestablishes air connectivity to Moab, a popular outdoor tourism destination in Utah, allowing passengers to connect via United's Denver hub to domestic and international destinations.

According to United's latest schedule, Denver-Moab flights will resume on October 7, offering one or two daily services in the first month before settling into a steady daily frequency. The initial schedule includes: Denver to Moab from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. five times weekly, and from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. daily; return flights from Moab to Denver from 10:10 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. five times weekly, and from 2:20 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. daily. All flights will be operated by SkyWest Airlines under the United Express brand, using 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets.

United previously operated the route from 2018 until January 2024, when it was suspended. The return indicates the airline still sees strategic value in connecting southeastern Utah communities with its Denver hub. According to 2023 U.S. Department of Transportation data, approximately 86% of passengers on this route connected through Denver to other United flights, rather than terminating in Denver, highlighting the route's primary role as a feeder service rather than relying on local traffic.

It remains unclear whether United's resumed service will replace flights currently operated by Contour Airlines on the same route, and the latest schedule does not indicate whether the flights are supported by the federal Essential Air Service (EAS) program. The service will significantly enhance connectivity for the remote area. Historical traffic data shows that in 2023, United sold approximately 64.5% of available seats on Denver-Moab flights, below the network average, reflecting the reality of a small regional market with limited local demand. For Moab residents and visitors, the resumed flights greatly reduce travel time compared to driving several hours to a larger airport.

Moab serves as a gateway to outdoor attractions in the American Southwest, including Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, and United aims to leverage the region's strong tourism market. The resumption of scheduled flights provides convenient access for travelers while improving air transportation for the local community. Whether the route will be more successful than before will depend on leisure demand and the strength of United's Denver connecting network.
