China Home to 4.4 Mln 5G Base Stations: Ministry

Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 18, By the end of March 2025, China had established over 4.39 million 5G base stations, achieving a user penetration rate of 75.9 percent, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This milestone highlights the nation’s ongoing advancements in digital infrastructure and technology.

At a press conference, MIIT Chief Engineer Xie Shaofeng stated: “China's cyber infrastructure has continued to improve and its digital industry has scaled new heights.” He emphasized the rapid development of digital technologies, particularly 5G and large-scale artificial intelligence models, which have driven significant progress in the sector.

In the first two months of 2025, China’s digital industry recorded an 8.2 percent year-on-year revenue increase, reflecting robust growth. The expansion of 5G infrastructure has played a key role in supporting this upward trend, enabling broader access to high-speed connectivity and fostering innovation across various industries.

Xie also noted that the industrial sector maintained steady performance in the first quarter of 2025. Improvements in industrial structure and the promotion of new, high-quality productive forces have further strengthened the sector’s contribution to economic development.
