en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, the C4 Adaptive Hydrogenation Unit of the Fujian Sinopec-SABIC Gulei Ethylene Project, contracted by Hualu Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd., successfully achieved mechanical completion, laying a solid foundation for the unit's scheduled commissioning and the overall production target of the project. Representatives from the Fujian Sinopec-SABIC OPMT team, the Ethylene Division, Guangdong Guoxin Supervision, Hualu Engineering, and various construction units attended the ceremony.
China
The total investment of the project is approximately RMB 44.8 billion (about USD 6.4 billion), representing an important practice in promoting the high-quality alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. The C4 Adaptive Hydrogenation Unit is a core downstream supporting unit for the ethylene plant and must be started up simultaneously with the ethylene plant. It can promptly process the cracked C4 produced by the ethylene unit, converting it into feedstock for downstream units, thereby achieving efficient material recycling.

Basic Project Information
Project Name: Sinopec-SABIC Gulei Ethylene Project
Project Location: Gulei Petrochemical Base, Zhangzhou, Fujian
Total Investment: RMB 44.8 billion (about USD 6.4 billion), the largest single foreign investment project in Fujian
Joint Venture Partners: Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) holds 51%, Fujian FuHua Group holds 49%
Core Unit Scale: The ethylene cracking unit has a design capacity of 1.5 million tons/year, with a maximum capacity of 1.8 million tons/year, making it the world's largest single-train ethylene unit.
Supporting Units: Downstream deep processing units for polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate, etc., forming an integrated complex.
Process Technology: Introduces 19 proprietary advanced technologies from SABIC, focusing on high-end polyolefin new materials for high-value-added fields such as new energy, electronic communications, and medical consumables.
Current Progress:
On May 26, the steam turbine of the cracked gas compressor set successfully passed its first test run, and all three core compressor sets passed testing.
On June 18, the core leading unit completed mechanical handover, followed by the full initiation of integrated commissioning, officially entering the critical period for feed commissioning.
In July, the C4 Adaptive Hydrogenation Unit successfully achieved mechanical completion, laying a solid foundation for the unit's scheduled commissioning and the project's overall production target.
Production Target: Scheduled for formal feed production in the second half of 2026.
