en.Wedoany.com Reported - Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL), India, has announced that its phenol and acetone production plant, involving an investment of INR 60 billion (approximately $627 million), is scheduled to be commissioned on October 14, 2026. The project is being implemented through its subsidiary Adplus Polymers & Chemicals.

Located in Haldia, West Bengal, the plant is designed to produce 300,000 metric tons of phenol and 185,000 metric tons of acetone annually. As key chemical intermediates, the products are widely used in pharmaceuticals, coatings, automotive components, and other sectors. The project also includes India's first dedicated propylene unit utilizing Olefin Conversion Technology, licensed by Lummus Technology, enabling propylene to be produced specifically based on market demand rather than merely as a refining by-product.

The project was initially disclosed in 2021, with an original target for completion in the first quarter of 2026. In November 2024, HPL signed a license amendment agreement with Lummus to further expand phenol capacity. According to Indian media reports, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to attend the inauguration ceremony. Once operational, the plant will become the largest petrochemical facility of its kind in West Bengal, helping to reduce India's import dependence on phenol and acetone.
