en.Wedoany.com Reported - Amazon France has inaugurated its 9th proprietary distribution center in mainland France, located in Colombier-Saugnieu, east of the Lyon metropolitan area. Codenamed LYS2, after the nearby Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport's IATA code, this 60,000-square-meter multi-story warehouse was built by Bouygues Bâtiment Industrie over 20 months. With two additional floors, the operational area reaches nearly 160,000 square meters, representing a total investment of approximately €200 million. The facility is equipped with a full suite of proprietary automation and robotic solutions.

The launch of this project marks the latest phase of Amazon France's expansion plan, initiated in 2018, after several years of legal proceedings. During the inauguration ceremony, Amazon highlighted the jobs created at the site: over 1,000 permanent positions have already been filled, with the total expected to reach 1,500 by the end of the year and a long-term target of 3,000. Thibaut Guilluy, Director of France Travail, attended the ceremony. The agency has assisted Amazon in large-scale recruitment under a national agreement signed in 2021 and renewed last year. Amazon Group stated that this is its most significant deployment in France in five years. In the short to medium term, the company also plans to open sites of approximately 110,000 square meters each in Eure-et-Loir and near Beauvais, as well as a multi-story warehouse exceeding 180,000 square meters in Alsace.
