en.Wedoany.com Reported - Minera Las Bambas has put into operation the first concentrate transport truck powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the Southern Mining Corridor (Corredor Minero del Sur) of Peru, marking a new step forward in the company's energy transition in mining logistics.

Luis Moya, Logistics Manager of Minera Las Bambas, stated that the project reflects the company's vision of building more efficient and sustainable operations. The introduction of LNG helps evaluate alternative energy sources with lower environmental impact, exploring innovative solutions for mining transport in Peru.

The first truck was put into operation on March 15. After nearly three months of evaluation, results showed good performance in safety, efficiency, reliability, and operating time, meeting the parameters set under the demanding conditions of the mining route. As part of the plan, the first LNG supply center in the Cusco region was also put into operation in Coporaque, Espinar. Located at an altitude of over 3,942 meters above sea level, this refueling station has become one of the highest LNG supply centers in the world and the highest recorded in the Americas.

The project is equipped with strict operational controls, professional personnel, and continuous technical support to ensure safe and reliable operations. Additionally, Las Bambas is evaluating the performance of approximately seven tractor brands to determine the technology best suited to the conditions of the Southern Mining Corridor.
