en.Wedoany.com Reported - During the 2026 World Mining Congress (WMC 2026), CETEMIN Institute, as the only technical training institution delivering courses at the congress, showcased its developed artificial intelligence agent "Sophia," which offers courses focused on exploration, mineral processing, and mining to assist learning and training.

WMC 2026 was held from June 23 to 26 in Lima, Peru, bringing together representatives from the mining industry, academia, and the international community to discuss topics such as artificial intelligence and data-driven decision-making, critical minerals, decarbonization, environmental sustainability, safety, and social performance. In this context, CETEMIN Institute stood out with its highly engaging agenda of training, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

During the pre-congress course session, CETEMIN offered a course titled "Artificial Intelligence in Mining Safety" (Inteligencia Artificial en Seguridad Minera), led by CETEMIN Board Chairman Engineer Raúl Benavides. Experts including Safety Value General Manager Alfredo Pallete, FGR Consultores General Manager Félix Guerra, and NTT DATA Executive Director Mariano Prieto participated in the course. This event solidified CETEMIN's leadership in driving technological innovation in mining safety.

Within the framework of the Academic Exchange Forum (Encuentro de la Academia), Professor Douglas Aitken from the Sustainable Minerals Institute at the University of Queensland, Australia, delivered a keynote speech titled "Collaboration Models of the Sustainable Minerals Institute in Chile: Lessons Learned and Opportunities for More Responsible Mining in Latin America." In the same forum, CETEMIN participated in the panel discussion "Academia as an Engine for Mining Innovation," where its General Manager Raphael Delgado emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry and academia to address sector challenges. Other panelists included IIMP Director Guillermo Shinno and UNMSM Mining Engineering School Dean Jorge Soto, with the discussion moderated by Bechtel Latin America President Carlos Alarco.

At CETEMIN's institutional booth, the AI agent Sophia attracted visitors' interest. The agent offers four courses focused on exploration, mineral processing, and mining, and visitors provided feedback for its improvement and scalability. Additionally, CETEMIN students, funded by scholarships from Transportadora de Gas del Perú (TGP), participated in the congress, learning about the latest trends and technologies in the mining sector.

CETEMIN General Manager Raphael Delgado stated: "Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our departments, we achieved broad and productive participation at WMC 2026. The CETEMIN team is highly committed, which strengthens our presence and leadership in the industry. On the other hand, we are delighted to involve students in learning sessions. We believe the only way to broaden their perspective on career development opportunities is to bring them closer to industry realities."
