en.Wedoany.com Reported - Australian autonomous mapping and robotics company Emesent has announced the completion of $17 million in funding to accelerate the development of its Cortex AI autonomous platform, expand its Aura cloud software services, and grow its presence in the mining, defense, architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sectors.

The funding consists of two parts: $7 million in venture debt from the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC), an Australian sovereign investor, and $10 million in equity financing. The equity financing is supported by a consortium of investors including Main Sequence, QIC Ventures, Orion Resource Partners, Hostplus, and NGS Super. The funds will be used to expand manufacturing capacity in Wacol, Queensland, and advance two strategic initiatives: Cortex AI—an embedded intelligence system enabling fully autonomous operations in high-risk environments without GPS signals; and Aura—a cloud platform for 3D data processing, visualization, and analysis. Currently, Emesent employs 109 people in Australia and plans to expand operations to meet growing international demand.

Emesent CEO Charles Miller stated that this investment accelerates the company's progress in artificial intelligence and autonomous technologies, solidifying its position in industries such as mining, defense, and critical infrastructure. NRFC CEO David Gall noted that this investment marks the NRFC's first venture debt financing in a deep tech company, demonstrating the fund's ability to provide flexible, non-dilutive growth capital to Australian enterprises with strong commercial momentum. Emesent's flagship product, Hovermap, is already operational in over 200 mines worldwide and is considered critical equipment by several top global mining companies, including Rio Tinto, BHP, and Glencore.

David Gall said that Emesent's breakthrough physical AI technology originated from CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) in 2018, and he is proud to support the commercialization of Australian-developed intellectual property. Robotics and autonomous systems are becoming a strategic pillar of the Australian economy, and this investment helps retain these capabilities domestically, create high-skilled jobs, and enhance sovereign capacity in critical areas.

The investor group reflects growing institutional confidence in Australian deep tech companies at the intersection of hardware, AI, and autonomous systems. Main Sequence Partner Mike Zimmerman stated that since 2018, Emesent has been leading the way in how clients map, understand, and operate in the world's most complex and hazardous environments, completing millions of missions across hundreds of mines and workplaces. He expressed pride in continuing to support Emesent's expansion, bringing its world-leading autonomous and data analytics platforms to an increasing number of customers.

Emesent's product portfolio includes: the Hovermap STX LiDAR payload for drones, vehicles, and backpacks; the Emesent GX1 scanner integrating SLAM, RTK, and 360° imaging technology; Aura data processing software; and Cortex AI autonomous flight software. These solutions serve customers in mining, AEC, defense, and critical infrastructure across more than 40 countries worldwide. This funding announcement comes as the Emesent GX1 completes a global tour of demonstrations for the AEC industry, spanning the Americas, Europe, and Asia. The company's strategic shift toward an autonomous intelligent platform model, powered by Cortex AI and Aura, aims to enhance the value of its equipment through ongoing software intelligence and cloud services.
