en.Wedoany.com Reported - A1 Digital, the enterprise division of Telekom Austria, has expanded its cloud and IoT services to Spain and plans to build its own sovereign cloud infrastructure in the country.

As part of its market expansion plan in Spain, A1 Digital is focusing on two core business directions. First, the company will launch its European Infrastructure-as-a-Service cloud platform, Exoscale, offering Spanish businesses a European alternative to US cloud providers. According to A1, Exoscale, first built in 2017, is a "born-sovereign" cloud platform with 100% of its infrastructure located within Europe, a fully open-source technology stack, and no reliance on any third-party intellectual property.
A1 Digital already has offices in Spain, as well as operations in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. The company's CEO, Elisabetta Castiglioni, stated that this move comes as businesses increasingly focus on digital sovereignty. She noted that digital sovereignty has reached the boardroom level, involving companies making informed and prudent decisions about which data and intellectual property they control and where, and that the Exoscale cloud is designed precisely for this purpose, being technologically mature and regulatory compliant.
Additionally, A1 Digital will launch a range of managed connectivity and IoT services, covering industrial facilities, fleet management, smart metering, and customized solutions for the energy, transportation, and healthcare sectors. The company's existing customers include the public health departments of the City of Frankfurt and the State of Hesse, as well as the Trusted Healthcare initiative in collaboration with Austria-based Miranext and Germany's Capito.ai.
Castiglioni described the expansion into Spain as the next logical step in the company's European growth, and noted that A1 Digital is also eyeing future expansion in Latin America. She stated that Spain is one of the fastest-growing economies in Europe and a natural gateway to Latin America, and that the company is coming to build something beneficial: a digitally empowered and sovereign Europe by investing in local infrastructure, leveraging its own team, and partnering with like-minded partners.
