OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Linux Desktop App Preview
en.Wedoany.com Reported - OpenAI released a preview version of the ChatGPT desktop app for Linux on August 11. Linux thus becomes the platform to receive official ChatGPT desktop client support, following macOS and Windows. This version is now available for preview worldwide, but it is not yet a full stable release.
The Linux version integrates ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex into a desktop application, allowing users to access conversations, projects, and development workflows on supported systems. The initial release supports Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44, covering both x64 and ARM64 architectures, with installation packages available for Debian-based and RPM-based distributions.
This release completes OpenAI's client presence across major desktop operating systems. However, the current compatibility scope remains limited to the announced Linux distributions, and it should not be interpreted as official support for all Linux systems.
