en.Wedoany.com Reported - Alstom has signed an agreement with Swedish passenger railway company SJ to provide vehicle maintenance for its night train services, with the contract valued at tens of millions of euros. The agreement covers 12 locomotives and 75 passenger cars operated by SJ, including sleeping cars.

The contract was awarded following a procurement by the Swedish Transport Administration. The fleet primarily operates on the Stockholm–Umeå and Stockholm–Narvik routes.

Maintenance work will mainly be carried out in Luleå. Alstom has approximately 60 employees stationed in Luleå, Umeå, and Kiruna, involved in railway vehicle maintenance in northern Sweden.

The scope of work includes preventive and corrective maintenance, component replacement, refurbishment, and measures to extend the fleet's lifespan. Alstom stated that the aging of some vehicles, combined with the technical complexity of sleeping cars and onboard systems, requires specialized maintenance capabilities.

Mikael Granberg, Service Director for Alstom in Sweden and Finland, said: "Reliable night train services depend not only on maintenance—but also on a strong local presence, long-term asset expertise, and continuous investment."

Alstom is investing in its depots in northern Sweden to expand regional maintenance capacity. The company currently provides maintenance services for rolling stock ranging from locomotives and vehicles manufactured in the 1980s to newer trainsets and locomotives.
