en.Wedoany.com Reported - The government of Quebec, Canada, is investing CAD 19.5 million to build 17 new cell towers in 10 regions as part of the third phase of its "Opération couverture cellulaire" (Cellular Coverage Operation) plan. These new sites will be operated by Bell Canada, Sogetel Mobilité, TELUS, and Vidéotron, and are scheduled for completion by September 2028.
Quebec stated that this expansion will improve wireless coverage, emergency communications, and economic development. Including the latest projects, the province plans to have 228 new cell towers in service by 2028, following an investment of nearly CAD 280 million in wireless infrastructure. The regions covered in this round include Laurentians, Lanaudière, Outaouais, Mauricie, Estrie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Chaudière-Appalaches, Centre-du-Québec, Côte-Nord, and Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
"Of the 211 cell sites scheduled for completion by December 31, 2026, a total of 87 sites (41%) are already in service," said France-Élaine Duranceau, Quebec's Minister of Cybersecurity and Digital Affairs and Chair of the Treasury Board, in a statement to The Canadian Press.
