PowerChina's 140 MW Photovoltaic Project in Xinjiang Achieves Full Capacity Grid Connection
en.Wedoany.com Reported - The 140 MW photovoltaic (PV) section of the 270 MW wind-solar hybrid demonstration project in Urumqi, Xinjiang, constructed by PowerChina, has achieved full-capacity grid connection.
Located in the Dabancheng District and Urumqi County of Urumqi, Xinjiang, the project has a total installed capacity of 270 MW, comprising 130 MW of wind power and 140 MW of solar power.
The project innovatively implements a densification construction approach based on the existing wind farm site of TBEA Urumqi County, efficiently utilizing existing wind, solar, and land resources. It establishes Xinjiang's first "wind-solar complementary, multi-use of one land" intensive development model, providing a replicable template for improving the quality and efficiency of existing wind farms and for wind-solar hybrid renovation and expansion projects in Xinjiang and across China.
The 140 MW PV unit connected to the grid this time is a core component of the project. The site uses monocrystalline silicon bifacial PV modules, which offer superior low-light performance, lower degradation rates, and significant backside gain, to enhance power generation per unit of land area and address industry pain points such as idle land resources in existing wind farms and fluctuations in wind and solar power output.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 650 million kWh of electricity annually, saving 200,000 tonnes of standard coal and reducing CO2 emissions by about 540,000 tonnes per year. This will help promote the green transformation of the local energy structure, continuously strengthen Xinjiang's position as a national comprehensive energy base, facilitate the green supply channel for "Xinjiang electricity transmission," and align with the national "dual carbon" goals and the desert, gobi, and barren land large-scale wind and solar base construction plan.
