Maharashtra, India Launches Tender for 85MW Floating Solar + Storage PPP Project

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 8, the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation (GMIDC) of Maharashtra, India, issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the construction of an 85MW floating solar power plant with a supporting battery energy storage system at the Mukane Reservoir in the Nashik region. The project will adopt a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the selected private partner responsible for development, operation, maintenance, and project management. The deadline for submission of EOI documents is September 28, and the technical and commercial documents are scheduled to be opened on September 29.

The scope of this project includes the design, installation, commissioning, and long-term operation and maintenance of the floating solar system and the co-located battery energy storage system. It also allows for the introduction of other compatible technologies after completion of a feasibility assessment and obtaining statutory approvals. The project will be implemented on the water surface of the Mukane Reservoir, and the private partner will also be responsible for the engineering scheme applicable to the reservoir floating system, the project financing structure, and construction organization.

This EOI sets clear thresholds for the technical track record of bidding consortia. Applicants or consortia must have cumulatively developed at least 43MW of floating solar and 22MW of battery energy storage projects within the 5 years prior to submission of the EOI documents, or possess comparable experience in solar infrastructure and PPP projects; they must also have at least 43MW of renewable energy project operation and maintenance track record for more than two consecutive years.

In terms of financial conditions, the average annual turnover of the applicant or consortium over the past 5 fiscal years must not be less than INR 1.67 billion, and they must maintain positive net assets. The tender document fee is INR 11,800, with an additional processing fee of INR 500. The above qualification conditions will be used to screen private partners entering the subsequent project development stage.

GMIDC has previously also advanced larger-scale reservoir floating solar projects in Maharashtra. In August 2026, the agency issued an EOI for a 200MW floating solar + storage project at the Purna Reservoir in the Hingoli region. That project also adopted a PPP model and required a battery energy storage system matching the project's commercial operation period. This Mukane project, with a scale of 85MW, is another independent reservoir project.
