en.Wedoany.com Reported - Swiss energy company Alpiq has agreed to acquire a 90% stake in Harmony Energy, a company engaged in the development and operation of battery energy storage systems in several European countries. This transaction will help Alpiq strengthen its flexibility portfolio and further expand its battery storage project pipeline in key European markets including the UK, Germany, France, and Poland. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by either party.

Through this acquisition, Alpiq will gain approximately 400MW of projects under construction, including a UK project scheduled to commence commercial operations in the third quarter of 2026. Harmony Energy's project pipeline will support Alpiq in building and operating a gigawatt-scale battery energy storage system portfolio over the coming years.
Antje Kanngiesser, CEO of Alpiq, stated that the two companies are expanding their scale by integrating respective strengths, with the goal of becoming a leading provider of flexibility solutions in Europe. Alpiq has expertise in flexible power generation and energy management, while Harmony Energy possesses outstanding capabilities in project development. The two parties have previously collaborated on two BESS projects, including the 100MW Cheviré site in France acquired by Alpiq in January 2026. This acquisition is highly aligned with Alpiq's flexibility strategy, helping to enhance its influence across the entire value chain of battery energy storage system development, construction, and operation.
Following the transaction, Harmony Energy will continue to operate independently under its existing brand, with its team, corporate culture, and operational structure remaining unchanged. Peter Kavanagh, co-founder and CEO of Harmony Energy, stated that with Alpiq's financial capacity, market experience, and pan-European presence, the company can effectively expand its project pipeline while ensuring stability for its team and partners. It is understood that Harmony Energy has developed 18 large-scale battery energy storage projects with a total capacity exceeding 700MW, accumulating professional experience in the development, construction, and management of battery energy storage assets.
