Cortizo invests €105 million in new factory in Portugal
en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Cortizo Group has officially broken ground on its first wholly-owned factory in Portugal. Located in the Chaves Industrial Park in the Vila Real district, the facility spans 30 hectares and is connected to the country's main road network via the A-24 highway. The project represents an investment of €105 million and is expected to create 400 jobs.

The new facility will have a built-up area of 80,000 square meters and will be equipped with extrusion presses and surface treatment equipment, aiming to supply both the Portuguese and international markets.
In March, after completing site preparation work, the factory held its groundbreaking ceremony. The event was led by Cortizo Group President José Manuel Cortizo and General Manager Raquel Cortizo, and was attended by Portugal's Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, Mayor of Chaves Nuno Vaz, and other officials.
During the event, General Manager Raquel Cortizo stated that the new factory will be equipped with "the latest innovations in the sector and cutting-edge technology applied to aluminum processing." She emphasized that all processes, from extrusion to surface treatment, will be interconnected through "advanced robotic systems."
If the project proceeds as planned, the company expects to complete construction by the end of 2027. At that time, Raquel Cortizo confirmed that production would begin in December of the same year.
The new factory received positive feedback from Economy Minister Manuel Castro Almeida, who believes this infrastructure will create favorable conditions for increasing national exports. The Mayor of Chaves welcomed the multinational's establishment in the area, calling it "one of the largest business projects ever implemented in this city."

Through this project, the Cortizo Group continues to strengthen its presence in Portugal. The company's activities in Portugal date back decades, with its first sales in the country occurring in 1989. In 2002, Cortizo Portugal was established, opening its first representative office in Vila do Conde to serve the northern region of Portugal. A decade later, the company expanded its logistics network southward, opening a representative office in Rio Maior. Due to sustained growth in demand from the Portuguese market, both centers recently doubled their floor space. Against this backdrop, following more than 30 years of collaboration between the company and Portugal, Cortizo is now advancing the construction of this production center in Chaves, which is "crucial for the Portuguese economy."
