en.Wedoany.com Reported - EDP Renováveis (EDPR), the renewable energy subsidiary of Portuguese utility EDP, saw its power generation increase by 4% year-on-year in the first half of the year, reaching 22.1 TWh. This growth was primarily driven by the continuous expansion of installed capacity, with the company's total installed capacity rising to 20.5 GW during the period.

By region, North America contributed over 60% of total output, with production in the region rising 7% year-on-year, fueled by new capacity additions. Europe accounted for 26% of global output, but production in the region fell 2% year-on-year due to a net reduction of 200 MW in installed capacity from asset sales. South America saw a 2% decline in output, mainly due to weaker resource conditions, though new capacity additions partially offset the decline. The Asia-Pacific region stood out with a significant 17% year-on-year increase in output, driven by the commissioning of new capacity and improved resource conditions.

At the group level, EDP's total power generation remained stable at 34.5 TWh in the first half. Thermal power output decreased compared to the same period last year, which was affected by outages. Hydropower output fell 5% year-on-year, with a 10% decline in the Iberian Peninsula and an 8% increase in Brazil. In natural gas generation, output in the Iberian Peninsula dropped 13% year-on-year, while coal-fired power generation in Spain saw a sharper decline of 66%.

By generation type, concentrated solar power output grew 16% year-on-year, driven primarily by a 21% increase in North America. Distributed solar power output grew at a faster pace of 21%, with North America and Europe recording increases of 36% and 29%, respectively. Wind power output rose 1% overall, with a 3% increase in North America and a 2% decline in Europe.
