Formosa 4 in Taiwan, China procures over 900 sets of marine lighting equipment

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 25, Norwegian lighting equipment company Glamox secured a marine lighting contract for the Formosa 4 offshore wind project in Taiwan, China, supplying over 900 sets of professional marine lighting fixtures for the transition pieces of 35 wind turbine foundations. The contract was awarded by ProCon Taiwan and SK oceanplant, with the specific contract value undisclosed. The equipment is scheduled for delivery in August 2026.

The scope of supply covers the internal and external working areas of 35 turbine transition pieces, including boat landing platforms, handrails, ladders, and access routes and hatches leading into the turbine interiors. The project will adopt the MIR G2 series luminaires, designed specifically for Taiwan's offshore wind environment, and will be equipped with FL60 LED floodlights on the foundation platforms. The relevant equipment must withstand high temperatures, high humidity, salt spray, and corrosive conditions at sea, while providing lighting for boarding, inspection, and maintenance operations on the turbine foundations.

The lighting system will be developed in parallel with the manufacturing of the turbine foundations. The 35 turbine foundations for Formosa 4 are being supplied with the participation of Century Wind Power, with related structures manufactured in Taiwan, China; SK oceanplant is simultaneously involved in manufacturing transition pieces and other structures in South Korea. Following the delivery of over 900 lighting fixtures, they will proceed to subsequent offshore installation phases along with the manufacturing and integration of the transition pieces. Glamox has previously participated in the supply of lighting equipment for other offshore wind projects in Taiwan, including Hai Long 2, Hai Long 3, Greater Changhua 2b & 4, and the 495MW Fengmiao 1.

Formosa 4 is developed by Synera Renewable Energy, located approximately 18–20 kilometers off the western coast of Miaoli County, covering a wind farm area of about 58 square kilometers with a total installed capacity of 495MW. The project plans to install 35 Siemens Gamesa 14MW-class offshore wind turbines, along with one offshore substation, one onshore substation, eight 66kV inter-array cables, and two 230kV subsea export cables.

The project's main engineering supply chain has been progressively finalized. Siemens Gamesa is responsible for supplying the 35 14MW turbines, with nacelles provided by its manufacturing base in Taichung, Taiwan, China; Cadeler is responsible for turbine transportation and installation, with offshore turbine installation operations planned to commence in March 2028; CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering is responsible for the transportation, installation, and scour protection of the 35 turbine foundations and the offshore substation; Jan De Nul is undertaking the transportation and laying of approximately 60 kilometers of subsea export cables, while Seaway7 is responsible for the installation of inter-array cables.

The offshore substation has also entered the manufacturing phase. A consortium of Semco Maritime and PTSC M&C completed the first steel cutting in January 2026 at the manufacturing base in Vung Tau, Vietnam, and is responsible for the design, procurement, manufacturing, and commissioning of the substation jacket and topside, with delivery targeted for completion by the end of 2027. Project environmental data indicates that onshore works are targeted for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027, offshore works are planned for completion in the fourth quarter of 2028, with overall commercial operation targeted for the second quarter of 2029.

Formosa 4 completed corporate power purchase agreement arrangements for all 495MW of electricity in December 2025, with the developer signing three corporate PPAs. As contracts for turbines, foundations, substations, subsea cables, and auxiliary equipment successively move into manufacturing and supply phases, the project supply chain is transitioning from contract finalization to equipment manufacturing and offshore construction preparation.
