Germany's VSB Kicks Off Repowering Project for 18MW Wind Farm
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 8, German renewable energy project developer VSB launched construction of the Liethe-Lehmden wind farm repowering project. Located in Rastede, Lower Saxony, the project will dismantle 4 existing turbines and replace them with 3 new turbines with a total installed capacity of 18MW. The existing equipment consists of NEG Micon NM52 turbines, each with a capacity of 0.9MW, totaling 3.6MW; after repowering, the wind farm's installed capacity will reach 5 times the original. VSB estimates that the new wind farm's annual power generation will be more than 10 times that of the pre-repowering level, sufficient to meet the annual electricity demand of approximately 11,300 three-person households.

The new project will install 3 Vestas V150 turbines. Construction has now entered the site preparation phase, with preliminary archaeological surveys completed, and the contractor is carrying out site layout, access road construction, and crane pad preparation. Because one of the turbine locations has waterlogged soil and localized peat deposits, additional measures are required in the construction area to ensure the site remains dry and achieves the necessary bearing capacity. The project is scheduled to complete foundation construction preparations by the end of 2026, creating conditions for subsequent turbine foundation construction and equipment installation.
Subsequent milestones for equipment dismantling and delivery have been set. The 4 existing turbines are scheduled to be dismantled starting in February 2027, and the equipment components for the 3 new turbines are expected to arrive on site from June 2027. Turbine blade transport will use self-propelled blade transport vehicles to complete on-site transport of the large blades. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in late summer 2027.
Liethe-Lehmden is the first wind farm project VSB has launched in Lower Saxony. The company is also advancing other wind projects in the area: in July 2026, the Oldenbrok Süd project, located about 20 kilometers from Liethe-Lehmden, received approval, with a planned total installed capacity of 14MW.
