en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, Tunisia announced its renewable energy development plan for 2027, planning to advance approximately 1,600 MW of new installed capacity and raise the share of renewable energy in power generation from 12% in 2026 to 16% in 2027. According to the finance bill reviewed by Reuters, about 1,100 MW will be opened to international investors through concession and permit projects, while the remaining 500 MW will be used for self-generation projects. The plan involves photovoltaic, wind power and supporting battery energy storage facilities.

This round of planning includes several projects with clearly defined installed capacities. Among the concession projects, a 198 MW renewable energy power station and a 77 MW wind farm in the Khnabna area have been included in the commissioning schedule. A 300 MW photovoltaic power station in the Bazma area of Kebili Governorate in southern Tunisia is planned to start construction, along with a supporting battery energy storage system. The finance bill does not specify the power rating, capacity or construction investment of the energy storage system.

In addition to the above projects, the Tunisian government also plans to install approximately 515 MW of new capacity through the sixth round of the renewable energy permit mechanism. The finance bill has not yet provided the specific locations, developers, technology configurations or implementation timelines for this batch of projects.

At a ministerial meeting on energy projects held on October 10, the Tunisian government reviewed an action plan for energy project implementation, covering new power generation capacity, renovation of existing infrastructure, renewable energy development and power storage deployment. The meeting reaffirmed the target of achieving a 35% share of renewable energy in power generation by 2030.
