The system has been deployed in all of Qarmet's coal mines in Kazakhstan, aiming to enhance safety monitoring and production efficiency in underground operations through digital means.
Qarmet is one of the largest metallurgical and mining enterprises in Kazakhstan. Formerly known as ArcelorMittal Temirtau, it was jointly acquired by the Kazakh government and investors from the Karaganda region at the end of 2023, serving as a core pillar of Kazakhstan's steel and coal industries. According to Qarmet's press office, the digital platform deployed was provided by AG Tech, a local Kazakh company. The system integrates functions such as personnel and equipment positioning, hazardous area warnings, fall and stationary state detection, gas sensor monitoring, and seismic surveillance, enabling real-time tracking of the movement trajectories of personnel and equipment underground.
The system also supports centralized management from a central control room. In the event of an accident or emergency underground, the console can send signals to the mining face, activating beacons on miners' helmets and initiating personnel evacuation procedures as needed. According to Qarmet, the digital platform has been incorporated into Kazakhstan's national industrial safety concept and approved by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan. Currently, the platform is in use across 30 mines nationwide in Kazakhstan.
The demonstration at the INNOPROM-2026 exhibition comes at a critical time as Kazakhstan continues to advance the digital transformation of its mining industry. The deployment of this system not only helps improve the operational safety level of Qarmet's coal mines but also provides a practical model for standardizing safety production in Kazakhstan's mining sector.
