en.Wedoany.com Reported - Yapei Technology Co., Ltd., in collaboration with PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Company and Gansu Chemical Industry Research Institute (Gansu Qihua Chuangyuan Chemical Industry Research Co., Ltd.), recently officially launched a thousand-ton pilot project for ethylene oligomerization to produce high-carbon alpha-olefins in Lanzhou.
Wei Dongchu, founder and chairman of Yapei Technology, stated that the project will fill a technological gap in PetroChina's system for non-selective ethylene oligomerization at the thousand-ton pilot scale, and will advance the domestic substitution of core materials such as high-carbon alpha-olefins, POE elastomers, and mPAO high-end lubricants in China.
High-carbon alpha-olefins (LAO, C6+) are key raw materials for strategic materials such as high-end polyolefins, POE elastomers, and synthetic lubricant PAO, and are regarded by the industry as important basic chemicals in the field of new chemical materials. For a long time, China's high-carbon alpha-olefin industry has faced a structural contradiction between overcapacity in low-end products and heavy reliance on imports for high-end products, making it a critical weakness in the new chemical materials sector.
This collaboration focuses on the thousand-ton ethylene oligomerization pilot, aiming to verify the stability and reliability of Yapei's self-developed ethylene oligomerization catalysts and production processes, and to systematically collect core data required for industrial scale-up. The project will provide comprehensive engineering data support for subsequent development of ten-thousand-ton process packages, selection of core equipment, and production cost control, laying the foundation for large-scale technology deployment.
The pilot project has completed multiple phases of bidding. On January 29 this year, the environmental impact assessment procurement for non-selective ethylene synthesis of linear alpha-olefins was awarded to Western (Gansu) Ecological Environment Engineering Co., Ltd.; on February 6, the safety pre-evaluation procurement was awarded to Sichuan Zhongyi Meihua Technology Co., Ltd. Gansu Branch; in early July, the engineering supervision procurement for the non-selective ethylene synthesis of linear alpha-olefins pilot project by Gansu Qihua Chuangyuan Chemical Industry Research Co., Ltd. was awarded to Langfang Zhongyou Langwei Engineering Project Management Co., Ltd.
Upon successful implementation, the project will help establish a fully domestic industrial chain in China, from non-selective ethylene oligomerization to produce LAO, to high-end polyolefins and mPAO new materials, and finally to end-use applications, achieving full self-control from basic chemical raw materials to high-end new materials in the high-carbon alpha-olefin sector.
