en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indian building materials company Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd. announced on July 11, 2026, the commissioning of a cement grinding unit at its Limla plant in Surat, Gujarat, adding a new annual capacity of 2 million tonnes. This move marks the company's official entry into the Gujarat market, representing a key milestone achieved after acquiring and revitalizing the assets of Vadraj Cement.
Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd. is the cement business arm of India's Nirma Group. In June 2025, the company completed the acquisition of financially distressed Vadraj Cement Ltd. through the corporate insolvency resolution process for INR 18 billion (approximately USD 217 million). Vadraj Cement's assets include a clinker production facility in Kutch, Gujarat, and a grinding unit in Limla, Surat. To restore operations at the grinding unit, Nuvoco invested an additional approximately INR 2.4 billion (approximately USD 29 million) for renovation and modernization.
The newly commissioned grinding unit is part of Vadraj Cement's total annual capacity of 6 million tonnes. The plant can produce a full range of cement products, including ordinary Portland cement, slag cement, Portland pozzolana cement, and composite cement. The commissioning of this facility will help Nuvoco serve the Gujarat market and surrounding areas such as western Maharashtra, while freeing up capacity at its plants in northern Rajasthan, allowing it to focus on meeting demand in the northern Indian market. Nuvoco Vistas plans to increase its total capacity to 35 million tonnes by fiscal year 2028, with an average capacity utilization rate of approximately 81% as of March 31, 2026.
