en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port Authority of Alicante (Autoridad Portuaria de Alicante) has deployed the first equipment for automating port border controls, in line with the implementation of the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS).

These infrastructure elements include ten self-service registration kiosks, three inspection booths (one located at the cruise terminal), and two containerized modules (placed next to vehicle lanes), each equipped with one manual inspection station and six automated self-service positions.

The aforementioned equipment is designed to accelerate the registration of entry and exit data and the management of travel authorizations for third-country nationals, aligning them with EU regulations, particularly during the "Operation Crossing the Strait (Operación Paso del Estrecho)." This investment serves the modernization and digitalization of external border controls within the Schengen Area and has received co-funding from the European Union.

Sistemas Informáticos Abiertos won the project with a bid of €1,215,752.36, with an execution period of 36 months. During last year's "Operation Crossing the Strait," traffic through the Port of Alicante transported a total of 84,673 passengers and 27,317 vehicles.
