Wedoany.com Report-May 17, PPG Industries has announced an investment of $380 million to establish a new aerospace coatings and sealants manufacturing facility in Shelby, North Carolina. The construction of this 62-acre site is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with completion expected in the first half of 2027. The 198,000-square-foot plant will allow PPG to meet the increasing demands of the aerospace sector and enhance its production capacity.
The new facility will employ over 110 people and will manufacture the full range of PPG’s aerospace coatings and sealants. Its location, combined with improved transport links in the region, will streamline the company’s supply chain and shipping logistics, enabling better service levels for its aerospace customers.
Tim Knavish, PPG's chairman and CEO, emphasized: “PPG’s investment in this new manufacturing facility demonstrates the significant demand growth for our world-class technologies and our continued commitment to serving our aerospace customers. By modernizing and digitizing our facilities, PPG will continue to embody our purpose – to protect and beautify the world – while contributing to the growth and innovation of the aerospace sector.”
Sam Millikin, PPG's vice president of global aerospace, also noted: “We look forward to expanding our aerospace manufacturing footprint with this new facility. This investment not only underscores our commitment to the aerospace industry and providing high-quality products, but also positions us to respond more effectively to growing market needs. The Shelby, N.C. location will play a crucial role in enhancing our operational efficiency and supporting our customers. We appreciate our continued partnership with Governor Stein, local, state and federal representatives, and the Shelby community as we increase our production capabilities in this region.”
The new facility will be equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies and practices that aim to minimize its environmental impact while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. This investment is part of PPG's broader strategy, as the company has made several manufacturing investments in the U.S. in recent years, including new plants in Tennessee and expansions in Texas and North Carolina.
By expanding its operations in Shelby, PPG will enhance its ability to meet the growing needs of the aerospace industry and strengthen its position in the sector. The investment reflects PPG’s ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability, and supporting its customers with high-quality aerospace products.
