en.Wedoany.com Reported - Domis Construction, a contractor owned by Betfred billionaire Fred Done, has completed a 28-storey, 509-bed Corten steel tower at the bottom of Deansgate in Manchester, UK, marking the company's third project this year. The building has been handed over to developer Fusion Group and investment management firm Cain. Domis had previously completed Glenbrook's Lumina Village and Salboy's Waterhouse Gardens projects earlier this year.
Designed by Corstorphine + Wright Architects, Fusion Group's Deansgate development plan was initially rejected by Manchester City Council in 2021. The authority expressed concerns about the suitability of building purpose-built student accommodation at that location. In 2022, the rejection was overturned on appeal, and Domis commenced construction in September 2023. The tower's completion aligns with the initial estimate of summer 2026 and was delivered three months ahead of schedule.
This is Domis's first purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development. Facilities within the building include a cardio and strength training area, a wellness studio, a gaming zone, a karaoke room, a library, and three outdoor roof terraces. Matic Building Services handled the full mechanical and electrical fit-out for the project, collaborating with Domis Group's mechanical and electrical design consultancy, NOVO. Domis Utilities provided support from early temporary services through to final connection stages, Wright Landscapes completed the external areas, and Casana Interiors managed the interior fit-out.

Kingsley Thornton, Managing Director of Domis Construction, stated that the project is about more than just providing student accommodation; the goal was to create a place that makes a positive contribution to Manchester, pushes beyond conventional expectations for student housing, and reflects the city's vibrancy. André Ferdinand, Project Director at Fusion Group, added that the successful delivery of the project demonstrates what can be achieved when two organisations share the same vision and collaborate effectively. Oliver Cummings, Managing Director and Head of PBSA at Cain, noted that the completion of this project represents another significant milestone in their student accommodation strategy, combining a prime city-centre location with high-quality design and amenities.
As preparations are underway for students to move in this September, Fusion Group has turned its attention to a project on Whitworth Street West. The developer plans to build a 39-storey, 808-bed PBSA tower on that site.
