en.Wedoany.com Reported - DeepOcean has completed subsea decommissioning work for Spirit Energy at the Seven Seas and Grove West fields in the southern UK North Sea, including the recovery of a wellhead protection structure and the disconnection of subsea infrastructure using proprietary tools developed in-house.
This work is part of a larger decommissioning program for Spirit Energy's two fields, and its completion prepares for planned drilling activities.
DeepOcean provided engineering, project management, and offshore execution for the project, deploying the construction vessel Edda Freya to recover the remaining wellhead protection structure at the Seven Seas field. The structure, weighing over 100 metric tons, had been in service since 2011. The company stated that all recovered materials will be reused, recycled, or responsibly disposed of.
Robin Mawhinney, Executive Vice President for Europe, Middle East, and Africa at DeepOcean, noted that the wellhead protection structure at Seven Seas had served the field since 2011 and remained in good condition. He expressed pleasure in supporting Spirit Energy on this project and looked forward to collaborating with Spirit Energy on a broader scope of work in the future.
At the nearby Grove West field, DeepOcean used a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and specialized tools to disconnect a spool piece from a subsea Christmas tree, eliminating the need for traditional diver intervention.
The company stated that this operation utilized methods and proprietary tools developed during the Gryphon Alpha FPSO removal project completed last year, further expanding its subsea decommissioning capabilities.
Spirit Energy said this work supports its goal of maximizing material recovery and minimizing waste in its decommissioning program.
Ceri Wheaton, Decommissioning Manager at Spirit Energy, stated that through close collaboration with specialized contractors like DeepOcean and leveraging the UK supply chain, they have safely recovered over 95% of materials from decommissioned assets and infrastructure.
The Seven Seas field is located approximately 80 kilometers off the coast of East Yorkshire in water depths of about 33 meters, while the Grove West field is situated about 130 kilometers offshore in water depths of around 40 meters.
