en.Wedoany.com Reported - Intel announced a €5 billion (approximately $5.7 billion) investment in its Leixlip campus in Ireland to expand existing manufacturing facilities and install advanced manufacturing equipment, meeting the demand for advanced silicon materials in the fields of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Related construction work began earlier this year.

This investment will enable the campus to produce Intel Xeon 6 and next-generation Intel Xeon processors based on Intel 3 process technology. The expansion also supports research and development activities and utilizes existing cleanroom space, aiming to strengthen the European semiconductor supply chain. Upgrades at the Leixlip site include modifying the automated track system to connect different parts of the campus, improving production efficiency.

Naga Chandrasekaran, Executive Vice President, Chief Technology and Operations Officer, and General Manager of Intel Foundry, stated that this investment is a clear commitment to maximizing capacity at the Leixlip campus and enhancing the products offered to Intel Foundry customers. By investing in existing fabs with the most advanced technology and installing cutting-edge tools, Intel not only increases the output of key products based on Intel 3, such as Xeon 6 and next-generation Intel Xeon processors, but also ensures Ireland remains at the forefront of the global advanced manufacturing ecosystem and strengthens the region's role in the global technology landscape.

Intel stated that the investment will support Ireland's semiconductor ecosystem, solidify its position as a European manufacturing hub, align with EU technology sovereignty goals, and contribute to building a more resilient domestic supply of cutting-edge processors. Since entering Ireland in 1989, Intel has invested over €30 billion in the country. The Leixlip campus currently employs 4,900 people and is one of Intel's most advanced manufacturing sites.

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin stated that Intel's latest multi-billion euro investment is a strong vote of confidence in Ireland's skills base and its central role in Europe's advanced manufacturing ecosystem. In an era of rapid technological change and global competition, this expansion enhances Ireland's role in securing a resilient semiconductor supply chain and strengthens its ambition to remain a global leader in innovation, productivity, and sustainable economic growth. Intel noted that the investment is also expected to create new permanent high-tech jobs, covering a range of specialized trades.

In April, Intel reported its first-quarter 2026 results, posting a net loss of $3.7 billion, compared to a net loss of $800 million in the same period last year.
