en.Wedoany.com Reported - After abandoning its commitment to full electrification by 2030, Swedish Volvo is now planning to reverse the SUV-only trend and reintroduce sedans and wagons to the North American market. According to a report by Automotive News citing internal sources, these models will be electric, built on the same SPA3 platform as the new EX60, and equipped with an 800-volt electrical architecture for ultra-fast charging, while offering different battery capacity options. The new cars will be produced in Europe and will carry the "60" or "70" series badges, such as naming similar to the S60/V60 or S70/V70, and will include a Cross Country version of the wagon.

Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson previously commented on the SUV boom, stating, "We are looking into this, and I don't think we will only have SUVs in five years." Stephen Connor, Managing Director of Volvo Car Australia, also said in 2022 that Volvo would not go "all-in on SUVs." "In the past few years, we've seen SUVs dominate, but now electrification will broaden that scope. I think what people are craving now is not the traditional SUV, but new body shapes. Electric vehicles allow us to experiment with new shapes and new ideas," Connor said. "Of course, we can also have other models." Greg Bosnich, Volvo Australia's Head of Public Relations and Communications, added at the time that Australia would actively seek to introduce an electric version of the V60 if it were launched. "There is still demand in Australia for a car like the V60, and if an electric version comes out, we will bring it in. The wagon is part of our story, isn't it? I think headquarters (Gothenburg, Sweden) realizes that, and that emotional connection still exists."
