en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 15, 2026, the Government of Mozambique signed a 25-year concession agreement for the development and operation of the Dondo Logistics Terminal in Sofala Province. The inland dry port, with a total investment of $117 million (approximately 2.1 billion rand), aims to alleviate congestion along the Beira Corridor and enhance the efficiency of regional cargo transportation via the Port of Beira.
The project was awarded last year to the consortium Terminal Logístico de Dondo, S.A., led by Chinese investors, and the signing of the concession agreement clears the way for construction to commence. The consortium is collaborating with Mozambique's national railway operator, Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM). Located approximately 30 kilometers from the Port of Beira, the Dondo Logistics Terminal will serve as an inland logistics hub, supporting the storage, consolidation, and distribution of cargo before transshipment via the port.
Mozambique's Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, stated that the terminal is expected to become operational in August or September next year, helping to ease transportation pressure along the Beira Corridor. The facility will strengthen logistics links between Mozambique and its landlocked neighbors that rely on the Beira Corridor for access to international markets, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi. Once operational, the inland terminal will divert some logistics operations from the Port of Beira, improving cargo handling efficiency, reducing congestion, and supporting more efficient road and rail freight operations.
