en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, UPS officially activated its new global operating model and simultaneously adjusted executive responsibilities, bringing certain operational functions previously distributed by region and business segment under unified global management. The new model was launched after UPS completed its reduction of Amazon volume and phased network restructuring in June, with core adjustments including unifying key operational processes across regions while retaining flexibility in local market execution.

Under the new organizational structure, Nando Cesarone has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Global Operating Officer, with unified responsibility for UPS's global air network and air hubs, ground transportation, building and engineering operations, the "Future Intelligent Network" initiative, vehicle operations, and sustainability functions. Matt Guffey has been appointed Executive Vice President and U.S. Domestic Business Leader, managing U.S. small package, Roadie, Happy Returns, The UPS Store, and Mail Innovations operations.

UPS has also created a new Executive Vice President and Chief Global Commercial Strategy Officer position, covering global strategy, marketing and communications, product management, and pricing, with the role currently still in the candidate selection process. Kate Gutmann, formerly responsible for International, Healthcare, and Supply Chain Solutions, stepped down from her current role on September 1, with Wilfredo Ramos succeeding her as head of International, Healthcare, and Supply Chain Solutions; Gutmann will continue to serve as a strategic advisor until the end of March 2027.

This organizational adjustment builds on UPS's previously implemented network restructuring. The company closed 45 leased or owned facilities in the first half of 2026, 44 of which were permanently closed, while simultaneously reducing operational staff, vehicles, and certain network resources. The related "Network Reconfiguration" and "Efficiency Reimagined" initiatives had generated approximately $1.8 billion in implementation costs as of the end of June, of which approximately $1.2 billion was incurred in 2026; approximately $1.2 billion in program benefits had been realized during the same period. UPS expects full-year related benefits of approximately $3 billion, with both initiatives expected to continue through 2027.

UPS had previously identified reducing volume from its largest customer, Amazon, as a key prerequisite for network restructuring, and reconfigured its U.S. domestic package network through automation, sortation integration, and facility adjustments. In its 2025 annual report, the company stated its intention to serve growth in enterprise customers, small and medium-sized businesses, B2B, healthcare logistics, and international business with a smaller, more automated network following the completion of the Amazon volume adjustment. The new global operating model further consolidates aviation, ground transportation, engineering, and network management functions into a unified global operating system starting in September.

UPS has not yet separately announced new job cut figures, facility closure numbers, or additional cost savings targets for this global operating model adjustment. Therefore, this milestone should be characterized as the "formal implementation and activation of the global operating architecture adjustment," and should not be directly described as a new round of layoffs or a new large-scale network reduction initiative.
