Fangchenggang in China Opens Direct Guinea Bauxite Rail-Sea Intermodal Corridor to Chongqing
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 1, a vessel carrying 168,000 tonnes of imported bauxite from Guinea successfully berthed at Fangchenggang and efficiently completed the full chain of operations including berthing and unloading, stockpiling, and railway evacuation. The first batch of cargo was shipped by rail to Wanzhou, Chongqing on October 3, providing strong support for the stable supply of raw materials to Bosai Mining's Wanzhou production base. This direct import corridor is a landmark achievement of cross-regional collaborative efforts by Beibu Gulf Port Group, China Railway Nanning Bureau, and the New Land-Sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd., marking a new breakthrough in the joint efforts of Guangxi and Chongqing to advance the construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, serve the inland industrial hinterland, and build a solid defense line for the security and stability of industrial and supply chains. It also marks a new step forward in inter-provincial logistics collaboration between Chongqing and Guangxi.

The new Guinea bauxite logistics chain implemented this time innovatively establishes a "overseas mine — Beibu Gulf Port entry — direct rail to Chongqing" rail-sea intermodal model. Compared with the traditional Yangtze River sea-river intermodal route, the overall transit time is shortened by approximately 25 days, achieving a dual improvement in both quality and efficiency of supply chain support capability. This project is not only a pragmatic practice of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor in seizing the window of opportunity for the Three Gorges capacity expansion and strengthening the supply guarantee capability for bulk materials, but also a vivid example of two-way linkage and collaborative empowerment between the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The new model gives full play to the complementary advantages of land and sea corridors, strengthens the hub function of the Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port in serving the Chengdu-Chongqing manufacturing base, and opens a safe and reliable backbone logistics corridor for bulk raw materials for industrial enterprises in Southwest China.
During this period, Beibu Gulf Port Group took the initiative to reach out and coordinate, joining forces with China Railway Nanning Bureau and New Land-Sea Corridor Operation Co., Ltd., and proactively adhered to the "one enterprise, one policy, precise empowerment" approach. Focusing on key links such as berthing and unloading, stockpiling and storage, railway train organization, and end-to-end connectivity, it systematically optimized operating procedures, reduced transit time, and tailored an integrated logistics solution for rail-sea intermodal transport of bulk cargo. Leveraging Beibu Gulf Port's hardware advantages in specialized ore unloading and warehousing reserves, it further consolidated the function of Chongqing industrial enterprises' strategic reserve base for overseas raw materials, and built a stable, efficient, and economically viable raw material import guarantee corridor for key manufacturing enterprises in the inland region.

Next, Beibu Gulf Port Group will seize the opportunity of the Pinglu Canal's navigation, continue to deepen its presence in the inland markets of Southwest China, strengthen cross-regional multi-party collaboration between Guangxi and Chongqing, improve the multimodal transport service system for bulk industrial raw materials, help inland industrial enterprises reduce costs and increase efficiency, maintain stable production and supply, empower the high-quality development of the regional real economy, and accelerate the construction of a new regional logistics development pattern that is efficient, smooth, safe, stable, and complementary in advantages.
