en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port of Barcelona (Puerto de Barcelona) has officially launched two key railway projects with a total investment of €22.1 million. Among them, the "New Railway Corridor. Entry and Exit Lines and Reception Lines for Nou Llobregat. Affected Services and Foundation Reinforcement" project invests €16.4 million, and the "New Railway Corridor. Entry and Exit Lines and Reception Lines for Nou Llobregat. Phase 1 Civil Works" project invests €5.7 million.

These two projects are crucial for constructing the new railway corridor and the Nou Llobregat Terminal (Terminal Nou Llobregat), serving as strategic infrastructure to enhance railway connectivity in the port area. Both projects fall under the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (MRR) plan, involving the construction of railway superstructures above the construction area and the reconfiguration of all existing services.

The planned works include: building platforms for the installation of two branch lines connecting the new southern railway corridor, currently under development by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Ministerio de Transporte, Movilidad y Agenda Urbana), with the rest of the port's internal railway network, as well as the future reception yard of the Nou Llobregat Terminal; relocating all existing services in the area, including electricity, communications, and water supply; constructing a main drainage culvert beneath the railway platforms; building the railway superstructure for the Nou Llobregat reception lines and the common line of the East Dock railway loop, extending to its southern end to connect with the existing Prat Dock (muelle Prat) railway platform and the future starting point of the branch line to the South Breakwater (dique Sur).

Additionally, track equipment valued at €500,000 is scheduled to be received and accepted, which will be incorporated into the "New Railway Corridor. Entry and Exit Lines and Reception Lines for Nou Llobregat. Phase 1 Civil Works" project.

This project builds on previous work, such as the Phase 1 foundation reinforcement project partially accepted in July 2025, with an investment of €9.7 million, enabling the current civil works to commence. The project also includes environmental measures, such as visual and acoustic barriers installed in 2021 at a cost of €1.27 million to protect bird colonies nesting at the mouth of the Llobregat River (río Llobregat).

Overall, the cumulative investment in various projects related to the Nou Llobregat railway development currently stands at €33.6 million, all funded through the EU NextGenerationEU fund and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia).
