Wedoany.com Report-May 18, Vestas has finalized a deal with LM Wind Power for the transfer of LM Wind Power’s blade factory in Goleniow, Poland, to the wind turbine manufacturer. Located near Szczecin, the factory was originally established in 2009 and expanded in 2017. It currently supplies blades for Vestas’ onshore wind turbines, including the V172-7.2MW model.
The financial details of the sale have not been disclosed. However, this move marks a significant expansion of Vestas' manufacturing capabilities in Europe, a region that is increasingly prioritizing sustainable energy solutions. Anders Nielsen, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Vestas, emphasized the importance of this acquisition, stating: “Europe needs secure, affordable and sustainable energy more than ever, and we’re pleased to expand our European manufacturing footprint to support wind energy’s growing role in Europe’s energy system. I want to thank LM Wind Power for their support and collaboration through the years, and we’re very pleased that our respective strategic priorities have made it possible for the factory to continue operating and be part of Vestas’ continued growth in Europe.”
LM Wind Power, part of GE Vernova, has stated that this transaction aligns with its strategic goals. Hanif Mashal, CEO of LM Wind Power, explained: “This proposed transaction is a strategic move for LM Wind Power and GE Vernova. This transaction would enable us to simplify our business and reinvest capital into our core European Union manufacturing facilities producing GE Vernova wind products to better serve our loyal customer base in the EU. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Vestas on the proposed transfer of this factory, previously dedicated to their projects, directly to their ownership to continue fulfilling their needs. We will work closely with Vestas to help ensure a smooth completion of the transaction.”
The factory transfer is seen as a strategic development for both companies. Vestas will gain direct control over the facility, further strengthening its position in the European wind energy market, while LM Wind Power focuses on its core manufacturing activities. This move also reflects the growing demand for renewable energy solutions in Europe, with wind power playing an increasingly central role in the region’s energy mix.
The transfer of the factory to Vestas is set to support the company’s continued growth in Europe’s wind energy sector, ensuring that the production of wind turbine blades aligns closely with Vestas’ ongoing expansion efforts and the region's energy transition goals. Both companies are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for the factory and its operations.
