The new building will replace a demolished former council office, creating a nine-storey low-carbon structure providing 53 affordable homes. These homes will sit above five flexible commercial units offering approximately 350 square metres of Class E commercial space. Over 60% of the homes are three-bedroom and four-bedroom, reflecting the council's focus on delivering larger family housing.
The project also includes landscaping of public areas and wider public realm improvements to soften the surrounding streetscape.
Albert Jacob House is part of Tower Hamlets Council's wider programme to deliver 4,000 new social rented homes across the borough. The project has a contract value of £30.9 million, falls under the higher-risk building regime of the Building Safety Act, and has been designed to meet the latest regulatory requirements.
