en.Wedoany.com Reported - EDM Resources has received a revised Industrial Approval from the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change in Canada to restart the Scotia Mine, located in Halifax County. The approval covers updates to the mining plan and processing facility, authorizing changes to the mine layout, processing infrastructure, waste rock and tailings management, and related environmental measures.
These modifications align with the company's updated Pre-Feasibility Study and support the goal of resuming mining operations in 2027, following the completion of permitting, financing, and construction activities. The restart remains subject to authorization under the Fisheries Act.
The Scotia Mine is expected to become Nova Scotia's only primary zinc producer, creating approximately 150 direct jobs upon commencement of production. The mine will also support Nova Scotia's Critical Minerals Strategy, under which zinc has been designated as a critical mineral for renewable energy and advanced manufacturing applications.
The revised Industrial Approval, issued following a technical review by provincial authorities, will support modernized mining operations, including a revised processing system and updated environmental management. Over the past two years, engineering, environmental, and permitting work has been completed for the updated project. EDM Resources is also advancing an updated mineral resource estimate, completing a Pre-Feasibility Study, progressing financing plans, and engaging in discussions with potential concentrate offtake partners.
The former-producing Scotia Mine is located approximately 60 kilometers northeast of Halifax. Mark Haywood, President and CEO of EDM Resources, stated that obtaining the revised Industrial Approval represents one of the most significant regulatory milestones achieved by the company since acquiring the Scotia Mine. Combined with the federal Fisheries Act authorization application submitted earlier this year and the ongoing Pre-Feasibility Study update, the company continues to make substantial progress toward restarting one of Atlantic Canada's most important critical mineral projects.
In June of last year, EDM Resources signed a definitive offtake supply agreement worth $58 million (C$79.39 million) with a Canadian gypsum producer and wallboard manufacturer for gypsum produced at the Scotia Mine.
