en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Northern Connection Plan of Brazil has officially launched the Infovia 05 fiber optic cable laying project, which will deploy an underwater fiber optic network along the bed of the Madeira River to connect multiple municipalities in the states of Amazonas and Rondônia. Of this 1,326-kilometer infrastructure, 1,116 kilometers of cable will be installed on the bed of the Madeira River, with the remaining 210 kilometers being land-based lines. The project starts at the São Raimundo Nonato community in the municipality of Autazes, Amazonas, and ends at Porto Velho, the capital of Rondônia.

The plan is coordinated by the Brazilian Ministry of Communications, in partnership with the National Telecommunications Agency, and executed by the Spectrum Management Entity. According to the Ministry of Communications, this infrastructure is expected to benefit approximately 700,000 people. The network will operate under a neutral operator model, allowing internet providers and operators to use the fiber optic capacity to offer broadband services to local residents and businesses.

Ângelo Lorenzo, General Coordinator of Infrastructure Projects at the Ministry of Communications, stated that this information highway will cover nine regions, expanding the availability of connectivity infrastructure. Technical surveys help monitor project execution, understand network operation, and inspect the various stages required for deployment. The new network will also serve the public sector, including eight regional referral hospitals, 80 public primary education schools, judicial institutions, Armed Forces units, and other public spaces.

Gina Marques, CEO of the Spectrum Management Entity, noted that the core motivation of the project is not the infrastructure itself, but the well-being and civil rights it will bring to people, as well as the opportunity to improve the quality of life for riverside communities. Infovia 05 is part of the Northern Connection Plan, which aims to lay nine information highways along approximately 13,000 kilometers of river channels in the Amazon region. The plan, with an estimated investment of 1.3 billion Brazilian reais, aims to provide network connectivity to about 7.5 million people in the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, and Roraima. In early June, the Ministry of Communications launched Infovia 03, connecting Pará and Amapá via approximately 800 kilometers of underwater cables installed in the Amazon River; in early July, Infovia 04 of the Northern Connection Plan was launched, a 1,182-kilometer fiber optic line connecting the capital of Roraima to Manaus, Amazonas.
