en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 21, CATL signed a 2GWh Tenergy sodium-ion battery energy storage cooperation agreement with Solarpro, a renewable energy company in Eastern Europe, planning to jointly deploy the first large-scale sodium-ion battery energy storage project in Central and Eastern Europe within the year.

This marks the second major order for CATL's Tenergy sodium-ion battery energy storage system in the European market within a week, following a 5GWh cooperation memorandum signed with Alfen N.V. in the Netherlands on July 16. The cumulative contracted capacity has reached 7GWh, ushering China's sodium-ion battery energy storage technology into a phase of large-scale application in Europe.

Under the cooperation agreement, CATL and Alfen N.V. plan to deploy 5GWh of Tenergy sodium-ion battery energy storage systems in the Netherlands and other Western European countries starting in 2027. This is the first application of the Tenergy sodium-ion battery product in the European market. CATL will leverage this opportunity to accumulate localized experience in applying sodium-ion batteries to European power grids, enhance product compatibility with European grid standards, and accelerate the large-scale adoption of sodium-ion battery energy storage technology in Europe.

The cooperation with Solarpro focuses on the Central and Eastern European market. The two parties will build the first large-scale sodium-ion battery energy storage demonstration project in the region within the year, accumulating operational experience for subsequent large-scale promotion in Eastern European countries.

This cooperation with Solarpro represents a further deepening of the strategic relationship between the two parties. The partnership began in 2024, with the successful deployment of a 150MWh EnerC+ liquid-cooled energy storage system in Bulgaria. In May of this year, a jointly developed 602MWh zero-degradation Tenergy lithium-ion battery energy storage system was connected to the Bulgarian power grid, boosting the country's total energy storage capacity by 10%. This signing marks an extension of the cooperation from lithium-ion batteries to sodium-ion batteries, simultaneously expanding the breadth and depth of the collaboration.

CATL stated that it will continue to support Europe's green energy transition through innovative energy storage solutions and promote the large-scale commercial application of sodium-ion battery energy storage technology worldwide.
